Music

The DfE Purpose of Study for Music states the following:

‘Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. ‘

We absolutely agree!  Our Music provision at Elson Junior School is something we are very proud of. Children have the opportunity to learn an instrument through the Hampshire Music Service during normal lesson time. We also have a music/drama teacher who delivers weekly lessons to all pupils. All children are invited to join our school choir and they have weekly after-school sessions. Our choir often represent our school at special occasions in our local community such as the recent D-Day commemoration, Christmas visits to local elderly residents and local music festivals. We also offer extra-curricular peripatetic lessons in drumming and guitar for which there is a small fee to parents. We also have an after-school drama club which is open to all and for which there is also a small fee for parents.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions, our after school music provision has been halted along with our school choir.  We look forward to a time when we can sing again!

Our Y6 pupils performed this fantastic Christmas song on their ukulele at the end of term.  They all thoroughly enjoyed their music this term.  Click on the link to watch the video.

This term, our Y6 pupils are having some rather special music lessons and are learning to play the ukulele.  The children thoroughly enjoy these lessons that are taught by a specialist music teacher from the Hampshire Music Service.
