Design and Technology and Elson

The Design and Technology curriculum at Elson is inspiring and practical. The underlying principle of our D&T curriculum is that our pupils will be taught to make and design things for a specific purpose. Using their creativity and imagination pupils will solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. The D&T project have sufficient depth and breadth to  enable pupils to learn practical skills and provide them with the knowledge to make products that move, light up, are structurally sound and meet the requirements of health and safety. Pupils will test, refine and develop the products they design and make, to check that they work and improve them if they don’t.

We understand that learning how to cook is a crucial life skill that enables pupils to feed themselves and other affordably and well, now and in later life. Our curriculum will teach pupils how to cook and apply the principle of nutrition and healthy eating.

Finally, stories behind inventions and everyday objects will both provide a wider landscape for our pupils to inform their D&T learning and support reading, talking and writing.
