Safeguarding at Elson Junior School
At EJS, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We are fully committed to ensuring that every child feels safe, valued and listened to. Our approach is guided by the statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), which all schools in England must follow to protect children from harm and promote their welfare.
We recognise that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All staff, volunteers and governors receive regular training and are expected to understand and follow the latest KCSIE guidance, including how to recognise concerns, respond appropriately, and report them without delay.
For children, this means:
-
knowing there are trusted adults they can talk to
-
learning how to stay safe, including online
-
being supported quickly if something worries them
For parents and carers, this means:
-
clear systems for raising concerns or sharing information
-
confidence that concerns will be taken seriously and acted upon
-
strong partnerships between home, school and external agencies
We have a designated safeguarding lead (DSL) and trained deputies who oversee all safeguarding and child protection matters. We work closely with local authority services, health professionals and other agencies to ensure children receive the right support at the right time.
Our safeguarding arrangements include:
-
safer recruitment procedures
-
clear Safeguarding and Child protection policies (available here)
-
robust procedures for managing concerns about children or adults
-
a strong culture of vigilance and professional curiosity
In addition, we support families in a wider context, ensuring those that need support at any times are able to access help and care when needed. Please see our ‘Community links and family support’ page here.
